BRAIN JAM, PAPER JAM (Week 6)
HAPPY NEW YEAR! … or not?
I was so determined to be the best intern for myself in 2017
than I was in 2016. For the record, when work resumes on the 3rd, I
felt more motivated to work that I got in the office at 7am, unlike my usual
time in of 7:30 –not like it makes a difference in my time rendered though,
lol, time starts ticking at 7:30am. Anyway, that is still a motivation. But as
the new year arrives, new series of tasks came with it too… talking about the
year-end reports and –drum roll, please… A-U-D-I-T. I spelt it out for you so
you won’t hear it as “Oh, dear.” Yup, once again, it’s the auditing season, and
for Nestle CF, it’s too crucial to lose in.
Every three years, Nestle’s best group of internal auditors
come and check the facilities and anyhoo’s of every factory. This year, is the
third year since the NGA (Nestle Group Audit), went to NCF and audited
everything around the factory, and yes… they are back to judge.
Well, it’s not like Nestle CF is not prepared for the
incoming wave –in fact, they are more than ready, preparing even last year for
the said audit. My supervisor, the compliance manager, once told me that I will
also be a part of the preparations for the said audit. Actually, there is no
need to fret, for the auditors will arrive by May 2017, pretty far, right? But
of course, being the ready factory themselves, and with Nestle CF being the
headquarters amongst all the Nestle factories in the Philippines, they are
armed with… well they are ready. (Hahaha! I am so out of words, honestly.)
On Monday (Week 7), there will be auditors who will come and
check the factory. I believe they are the auditors who will mainly give advice
on what to and what not to change? I am actually not sure, for this was
something that my supervisor did not warn me about, she was so busy checking
almost every corner of the factory. A while ago, she was in the area of guest
houses to check, and the result was something that I might not be permitted to
tell, anyways, all is well.
What was my contribution to this? Well, the whole week I was
given piles and piles of work that I barely managed to go out of the office. I
believe that the only time I got out was when I went to the pantry to get
myself hot choco (I think I drank too much –it’s FREE, who wouldn’t cave in?),
more warm water to calm my nerves, and yeah, when I need to go to the rest
room. Might I say, it was hectic. This week is too hectic! My first job for the
week was to file BES, short for bid evaluation form. The factory control
department is divided into two: the purchasing and the factory control (costing).
I was given numerous BES from Sir Alex, one of the strategic buyer, and I
compiled it in the storage. BES is where the purchased equipment and other goods
for the factory were written. Along with the purchasing, they are partners with
either the Project Office, or the Engineering Department, since they are the
once who initiates the proposals and all. Purchasing is the middlemen and the
negotiator to the costs and all. It’s an amazing job, for me. Since I don’t
only experience to bargain, I also learn about stuff that is related to
engineering and all.
Filing BES does not end there, as an OJT, I also did my
major responsibilities, the reconciliation reports, and just a while ago, the scrap
invoices report that weren’t done since November 2015. YUP. It is two thousand and fifteen! You and I were not mistaken. So
basically, I did that the whole day.
The hardest part was to sort the BES alphabetically, and per supplier for the year 2014, since they are
for archiving already. That is like hundreds of BES, and I admit it was
stressful and I am still not done!
I was actually stressed out, that I get mad easily nowadays.
So, I always opt to go home alone or not talk to anyone to avoid
misunderstandings, since my temper is too thin. However, one still managed to
burst this thin strong of hope for him to live.
I was hurrying because today we were supposed to submit our
timesheets, both the time sheet and the activity sheet, to our HR coordinator.
Me and my friend were in my department photocopying our fellow OJTs activity
sheets, since they are absent. Then this one fellow OJT of mine thought it was
fun to play with the photocopying machine that he pressed the numbers on the
numpad, all of us not realizing that it was meant to set the number of pages.
In the end, during printing, it started to print 88 freaking pages. And so I
freaked out. They were like, “If we were doing crime, Irish would definitely
get us caught.” I was astounded. First of all, if there will be anyone to be
blamed, it would be me, because I was the one photocopying, secondly, it was
normal of me to be surprised with what happened. I was not exaggerating, and I
was too stressed out for that. I tried my best to not lose my temper, but they
pushed me with those words. Honestly, fun and games were normal with our age,
but we were in the workplace setting, we were all in a hurry, and we were oriented to not play around at work.
Jokes are fine, but having the machine print 88 pages and ended up with the
paper jammed inside, I do think it’s a crime and it’s something that I should
freak out about. In the end, we asked one of the employees from IT to help us
fix it and voila, it’s back to normal. Also, I did calm down and was smiling
with my fellow OJTs, but I had to excuse myself right away because I was still
offended with that. Was it normal to feel that way or was that a mood swing of
mine? However, I still firmly believe that doing a crime is bad, so I will
definitely freak out and have them caught, for them to not do crimes again.
LOL. I totally need a rest.
