Most Wonderful Time of my Internship Year Yet (Week 4)
This week has been yet another fast week that has gone
by. I realized that I am already working there for four weeks, according to my
activity sheet, I have been working for an equivalent of 145 hours. I have 525
hours left to go!
This week was a week full of events at Nestle. We
celebrated 1NCE, or Nestle Continuous Excellence. Nestle Continuous Excellence
is a cultured business model around continuous improvement projects that have
extraordinary impact in the business in becoming a successful Lean Enterprise.
According to Nestlepurinacareers.com, the goal inspires everyone to understand
and give to what consumers and customers value most. Nestle actually have a
department dedicated for this continuing project, the Total Performance
Management or TPM. NCE is their way to delight
consumer, deliver competitive advantage, and excel in compliance.
As a foundation to the model, Nestle has developed and
honor basic management practices to help align on key priorities, track
performance and deliver consistent results. As a result, they have found that
their teams are more invested, engaged and thinking sustainability – always. NCE ensures that
the external world, their customers and consumers, are perpetually at the
forefront of their agenda in every single aspect of their business.
The unique thing about NCE is that it does not only
focus about the manufacturing practice, rather, it deals about the totality of
its departments, from the Human Resource, Finance, Marketing, Engineering and
all other functions behind the Nestle name. Practical and business-oriented
tools and technologies are provided to each teams across the business to
maximize efficiency and drive significant category growth.
Now, what Nestle Cabuyao Factory Manager, Mr. Ernie
Zamora, is something I agree with, as someone who has been a daughter of a
former employee in Nestle, I do notice that “the celebration of NCE may have
ended, but the improvement does not end here. We will continue improving to be
able to become the lighthouse factory that we aim to be.” They do live up to
become the lighthouse factory and is improving day by day to become the top
food manufacturing company globally.
I am not sure if pictures are allowed to be distributed
outside the company, so I decided to not upload one, however, I assure everyone
that the celebration of NCE was a success and was fun. There are booths that are
aligned to the fundamentals of NCE, and the ten pillars that comprises it.
There are games each booth that will give you learnings about it.
By the last day of the NCE Week, I joined my bosses in
FCD in performing for the contest in NCE Jingle. Thankfully, we won the first
place, MILKS Department being the 2nd placer. There is no champion,
since there are only two who sent their entries. Still, we were grateful to be
the first place, receiving praise from the factory manager himself.
Aside from the NCE Week, we also had our Department
Christmas Party at my supervisor’s home on December 15, 2016. It was my first
time to attend a Christmas Party as an intern (and without my parents, since I
attended Christmas parties in Nestle CF when I was younger). For a first timer,
I must say that I had a blast! It was really fun and enjoyable considering that
they all prepared well. It was Pokemon-themed, so we are supposed to dress as
the Pokemon that we picked. Well, I got Ponyta, but I hadn’t got the chance to
find costume (because of time constraints omgg), so I opted to wear clothes
according to Ponyta’s colors instead. Aside from the costumes and hearty meal,
the games were what had us pumped up for the night. My supervisor, Ms. Cynee,
is such a creative person to think of games that had us really participative in
such a way that we really enjoyed. If she was not a compliance manager, she
would be a good teacher to kids. She’s very crafty and that is just one of the
many things I admire about her.
Fun fact! While on our way to Ms. Cynee’s home, Sir
Nick, a cost executive in FCD, saw a picture of Governor Ramil Hernandez on a billboard
on our way to Mamplasan and he said, “Do you know that our governor was once an
intern in Nestle CF?”
With surprised expression, I asked, “What was he doing
as an intern?”
“Just like you, he was assigned in the finance department.”
It was very interesting to know that the governor of
Laguna was an intern in Nestle, and my responsibilities were also his during
his time. Is this a sign that I might be a future governor of Laguna? LOL. I
have to be thousand times diligent to become one.
As much as this week being a big one, I am looking
forward for week 5 because next week is my last week before the year ends, and
there will be another Christmas party. Yay!
